Family fun day boosts community spirit

COMMUNITY spirit was boosted as families joined in the fun of the first Grove Village family fun day and five-a-side football tournament.

A key driver of the Grove Village housing PFI scheme, which, in partnership with Manchester City Council is transforming the Plymouth Grove estate in Ardwick, Manchester, is to generate a surge of community pride among long-term residents and new members of the community.  The event at Swinton Grove Park on Friday 25th August kick-started that goal.

The fun day, organised by Grove Village, centred on the final of a five-a-side football tournament organised for local teenagers aged 11 to 15 years-old. The Grove Village “Two class for TV” were the winners of the local competition.

The event proved such a hit with local youngsters that the Grove Village Estates Team are set to organise a local league for the budding footballers. Other activities included arts and crafts, painting and an orienteering competition.

Grove Village Limited is transforming the inner city estate of Plymouth Grove into a thriving mixed tenure urban village, minutes away from Manchester city centre, through an intensive programme of refurbishment, regeneration, new build properties for sale and neighbourhood management.
